WHERE I HAVE WORKED
Weta Digital, Animation Lab (Israel) and before that various small studios, including being co-owner of a small studio for 3 years.
WHAT INSPIRED ME TO GO INTO THE VFX INDUSTRY
I've always liked the idea of being able to “create worlds”. I think one of my first really big inspirations was when I was growing up watching an old kids TV show, called 'The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest'. I was pretty young and hadn't really seen any of the big blockbuster movies, but for whatever reason the 3d sequences in that show made a really big impression on me. I knew that this is what I wanted to do.
SOME MOVIES I HAVE WORKED ON
Avengers: Infinity Wars, War for the Planet of the Apes, Independence Day: Resurgence, The Jungle Book , The BFG, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, The Hobbit (all three movies), Krampus, The Avengers, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, The Adventures of Tintin, Avatar, X-Men: First Clas
FAVOURITE MOVIE I'VE WORKED ON
It is difficult to choose! I like many of the projects I've worked on. For some, I like the way they ended up looking on the big screen, for others I really enjoyed actually working on them. Avatar is my favourite movie for the way it looked in the cinema, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has to be the most gratifying movie I have worked on.
WHAT I ENOY ABOUT WORKING IN THE VFX INDUSTRY
I love the challenges it presents. I live for the times when I get handed work and have no idea how to do it. Then, after an intense collaboration process with my workmates, we come up with some cool ideas that end up working great (hopefully!)
BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT RSP
The people have a really strong passion for what they do. Everyone seems to have the desire to do a great job. It's a lot easier to find people who love sharing ideas and push the limits through some intense collaboration, something that I've found is a lot harder to find in big studios.
WHY I LOVE WHERE I LIVE
Adelaide is a great city! It seems to have almost anything you need, the central area is packed of fun places, has really good food, and somehow doesn't feel cluttered like a big city.
WHAT INTERESTS ME OUTSIDE WORK
I guess I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie. I love crazy sports. I've been skydiving for few years, used to do circus training, not as much lately because I ended up injuring myself too much. I love photography, camping, going on long road trips and yes, I do love drinking beer very much!
SOME THINGS YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT ME
I have a twin brother who doesn't really like office jobs.
I Lived in Israel for 12 years. Intense place.
I broke my rib the first year I started snowboarding. I tried to jump over a hump but ended up doing a back flip. Sounds pretty bad ass when I say it like that but the truth is I had no idea what I was doing!
My parachute hasn't failed me yet :)
SUPERPOWER OF CHOICE
Reading people's minds. Knowledge is power.
Not sure it's phobia, but I really don't like insects, especially the ones that can kill you. I know, Australia is a strange choice.
WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS..
A common goal.
Flat White with Baileys and Frangelico.
ADVICE TO ASPIRING ARTISTS
As a good friend of mine once told me, if you love what you do, you're probably a happy person. Enjoy it while you can!
VFX is a messy industry, so if you don't quite like how things are – try to help make them better. If you can't make things better and if you're frustrated with your job – leave! There's no point in suffering. You'll only make yours and other people's lives miserable.
Try to be the best at what you really like doing, but learn as much as you can about everything else. Knowing what others have to deal with gives you a much better appreciation for their work and helps you do your job better. Plus everyone likes when others understand the pain they're going through, so it will ultimately help in making some really good connections in work and in life.
